Our Story, Mission, and Values
Creative Space began with a vision to empower local artists and connect them with art lovers and gift seekers. We foster a vibrant, inclusive environment where creativity thrives, celebrating originality and craftsmanship. Our mission is to build a community that values expressive art and the stories behind every creation.
Creative Space was founded in Darlington's
Cornmill Centre in 2018 by Michelle Douglas, a
jewellery designer and art lover, who wanted to
bring together like-minded people and form a
collaboration of local artists and creators in one
place. A place where artists could work and
support one another whilst being able to display
their work - as well as holding craft work
shops to share knowledge and serve the local
community - a 'Creative Space'.
Michelle was later joined by Simon Laverick... a
local Photographer, who not only showcased his
astrophotography but could also offer his
picture framing skills, which is now a prominent
part of the gallery.
Michelle & Simon now run the gallery together,
which moved to the bustling cobbled street of
Post House Wynd in 2023.
